Arjun Das – TRACES

Coming from the daily hustle and bustle of a city like Kolkata, I’ve often taken walks along the banks of the River Aare and I started observing the work of road crews. Because of my own experience of a life as an immigrant worker in Kolkata, I felt connected to the roadmen in Aarau. Most of them are immigrant workers too. Chunks of asphalt from those construction sites and twigs from the trees along the roads besides
have become the essential elements of my artwork. These items from daily life I carved in wood or chiseled on asphalt stand in strong contrast to the objects I chose referring to the lifes of immigrant workers in my previous artwork. (Arjun Das, 2019)
